The second edition of Wavesfactory Harmonix was released in mid 2015. A sample library created for Kontakt 5 and including the harmonics of acoustic, electric, and electric bass guitars in three velocity layers. At 20 euros, this sample library is quite affordable.
The electric harmonics are my favorite, providing a really clear and resonant tone with a long decay. The acoustic harmonics I think sound best when mixed with the electric guitar harmonics, and on their own are a bit duller and have more trouble carrying a melody on their own.
The electric bass harmonics add a certain depth and richness when mixed in, however some of these samples have slight tuning irregularities that become if you would like to use this instrument for a bass line.
This sample library is ideal for pop and corporate styles of music, though it could find a place in a larger range of styles. the reason it is so well suited it the bright timbral quality of the samples. While harmonics are usually a feature of any guitar sampler instrument, the Harmonix library has a particular sound, defined by the reduced transients on the attack of the notes and longer delay.
Built into the sampler instrument is a set of processing features including delay, EQ, compression, and arpeggiator, and more. Harmonix comes with 10 prepacked presets, all of which make good starting points for finding the precise balance you're looking for.
Sample track 1: Motivational Stock Music Style
In this sample track we hear various Harmonix presets working with a wide range of other instruments to create a motivational track.
Sample track 2: A Quick and Happy Tune
Created using only presets and instances of harmonix, I've tried to show the timbral range one can have in this sample library.
Sample track 3: Shimmering Pads
This track uses the two "shimmering pad" presets, showing how far the sampler instrument can go using the built-in effects controls.
Sample track 4: An Ambient Atmosphere
Harmonix sampler mixed into an ambient atmospheric music track. The bell-like timbre can blend and reinforce attacks when doubling synths.
Sample track 5: Cinematic Science Fiction Music
The harmonix instrument in a creepier context, in an attempt to blend these samples into a musical texture where they are designed to stand out.
